If you rarely travel out of your home country, you may be wondering if certain amenities, such as access to a prepaid credit card, are available in other countries. In most instances, the answer is yes.
If you are from the United States, for instance, you probably already know that you can buy a prepaid card at such national retailers as Walmart and Walgreens. You may be pleasantly surprised, however, to learn that these and other stores that you may have thought were only present in the United States are in other countries as well. The Philippines is one such example of a country in which these stores are located.
And, just as in the United States, you can buy a prepaid credit card at these stores in the Philippines and elsewhere. They work the same way—just like a regular debit or credit card. One difference, however, is that you may have to go to specific financial institutions or ATMs if you want to get currency rather than just use the card itself for a purchase.
If you do need currency, once you have found a bank or ATM that will accept your prepaid credit card, you will most likely receive your money in whatever currency is used in the country you’re in. Don’t worry, though: You can ask for information on how much each piece of currency is worth.
A prepaid credit card is a good thing to have in a foreign country. You don’t have to worry about having it stolen because the card is so small you can secure it very close to your body. This way, someone would literally have to “go through you” to get it. Additionally, much like travelers checks and similar secure items, prepaid cards are simple to cancel and have only a limited amount of money on them.
